ABSTRACT: Optical fibers are structures used to transport electromagnetic waves between two points in space. Its main application is high speed data transmission. across great distances. Due to its great data transmission capacity, the backbone of the internet is entirely composed of optical fibers. As more and more, more people have access to the internet, so there is no loss of communication bandwidth, there is a constant search to improve these devices. From multiplexing methods to the construction of multi-core fibers, various devices are used to increase the data transmission rate of optical fibers. This work presents a study of the application of the Orbital Angular Momentum of light in the transmission of data in optical fibers. The use of the Orbital Angular Moment of light in the transmission of data in optical fibers has been gaining prominence in recent years. It has already been proved that the Orbital Angular Momentum of light represents a new orthogonal degree of freedom in data transmission. Furthermore, theoretically, the number of states carrying Orbital Angular Momentum is infinite, which allows an infinite theoretical increase in the data transmission rate, however, there is an experimental limitation in the generation of these beams. This work presents a study of two fibers capable of carrying Orbital Angular Momentum. One of the fibers, here called hyper-fiber, has a refractive index hyperbolic profile and the other, called vortex-fiber, is modeled from an article that presents experimental results. The general solution of the hyper-fiber vector Helmholtz equation is obtained. This solution is described by two special functions: the Hypergeometric function of the second type and the generalized Laguerre polynomial. Both functions are used to describe optical phenomena, but they have not yet been analyzed together in this type of fiber. The algebraic vortex-fiber model was developed with the main objective of being able to compare the two fibers. The fiber analysis includes the evaluation of the convergence region of the functions, the study of the intensity profile and an estimate of the data transmission rate.pt_BR
