ABSTRACT: Tropospheric ozone (O3) in high concentration is a toxic compound for human beings. and can lead various types of materials to significant oxidative processes. THE formation of tropospheric O3 has as main precursors the emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOX) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). Many studies have pointed a reduction in VOC emissions and an increase in NOX emissions when adding biodiesel to diesel oil. Such modifications need to be evaluated for their impact on formation of tropospheric O3 so that the implementation of new biofuels does not lead to increased environmental impacts. In this context, the objective of this work was to perform a photochemical modeling of tropospheric ozone formation from the use of diesel with high levels of biodiesel in the fleet of heavy vehicles. For that it was prospection of photochemical models capable of simulating the formation of O3 tropospheric. In the assessment of O3 formation, a baseline scenario already available was used. in the literature, being proposed evaluation scenarios, from this, with modifications. After validating the models used in other scientific research, the modeling scenarios changing fuel content, types of biodiesel, types of driving cycle condition and percentage of the scenario's heavy vehicle fleet. You adjustments made were based on NOX and the concentration of VOCs emitted in the burning of each type of fuel. The OZIPR (Ozone Isopleth Package for Research) model in conjunction with the chemical mechanism SAPRC (Statewide Air Pollution Research Center) was the most efficient in terms of the objective of the present work. Five works were identified in the literature that use OZIPR with SAPRC, and one of these works was used as base scenarios in this study. For the proposed scenarios in this work, with a fleet of heavy vehicles of 5%, it was found that with the increase in biodiesel content in diesel (from B5 to B20 and B40), regardless of the material prima (palm or rapeseed biodiesel), there was an increase in ozone formation. To the simulation with other heavy vehicle fleet percentages (10%, 20% and 30%), different levels of biodiesel in diesel (B20, B40) and different raw materials from fuels (Palma and Rapeseed), variations were presented in the results, sometimes with increase in ozone formation, sometimes decrease.
