Poluição atmosférica e mudanças climáticas: suas influências na perda de biodiversidade

Abstract

The Earth is faced with an intense biodiversity loss crisis, which is caused by different factors. One of them, and widely discussed in the scientific community around the world, are the atmospheric emissions and their influences on the planet climate. It is known that the increase of the concentrations of some gases in the atmospheric (mainly CO2) has broad potential to intensify the natural greenhouse effect phenomenon, which in turn directly influences the changes in the Earth’s climate. Once affected, the weather can change the conditions necessary for the maintenance of the biological processes of many species, and change the characteristics of the habitats used by them, working directly for the specific population decline. This consummated fact can even lead to the extinction of species primarily important in the biological cycling of the terrestrial and marine ecosystems. In this context, this article objective is analyze the role of atmospheric emissions acting in the Earth’s biodiversity loss, trough the consequences caused by the anthropogenic high gas emission rates and the planet´s natural emissions sources. For this purpose, it was carried out a review of specialized bibliography on the subject, as the reports made by bodies and agencies involved in the climate, as well as scientific articles and some books that deal with the subject.
