Abstract: This article aims to develop a tool for a careful evaluation of the
use of retrofit in old buildings that are generally in poor use or in a precarious state
in urban centers of large cities. The retrofit is currently being used in greater
quantity, but how to know if it should be used in fact? What criteria should be taken
in consideration? Based on these questions, the idea of a tool that gives
conditions to carefully evaluate the building candidate for retrofit, cost of services
of the enterprise, conditions of the structure to recover and/or reinforce, update of the system
electricity and implementation of an automation system, to guarantee greater energy efficiency, analysis
of thermal and acoustic comfort, renovation or alteration of the façade and possibility in cases of
historical heritage, conditions of accessibility and mobility as urban roads and also the
maintainability and useful life after retrofit, without forgetting to consider the application of the assumptions of
performance standard, even though it is being adopted for new buildings. With the tool will
possible to identify, more easily, the most critical points, allowing to visualize the dimension of the
service, the most appropriate solution or not using this retrofit for the building, since a
one of the retrofit concepts is to guarantee the extension of the useful life and a work to exceed the budget of a
new venture and to take advantage of old structures that already exist in areas with a shortage of
unoccupied land in urban centers.

Abstract: The need of the various sectors of industry to produce equipment, piping and
welded structures in general more resistant to mechanical efforts and with characteristics
special features such as corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, increased
hardness, ductility, boosted the emergence of new materials and consequently
the development of new welding techniques. The union known as a

Therefore, it is necessary to know the microstructure of the fused zone resulting from the
welding of these materials before carrying out the process. There are some tools that
can be used to predict the microstructure of the weld region before

used this diagram to predict, before welding, the microstructure of a joint
dissimilar made of ASTM A36 carbon steel x AISI A316L stainless steel. After

Abstract: The mechanical properties of steels (tensile strength, hardness and others) can be
improved by adding a small amount of one or more chemical elements to carbon steel
ordinary. This work brings together information regarding the influences of the main alloying elements in
low and medium alloy steels, emphasizing the most relevant mechanical characteristics granted to the
new metal on. The alloying elements discussed here are: carbon, sulfur, manganese, chromium, nickel,
molybdenum, silicon, phosphorus, aluminum, copper, niobium, tungsten, vanadium, nitrogen and titanium.

Abstract: The pipeline transportation is the safest and the most economical way to carry large quantities of fluids through long
distances. As time goes by, more and more, kilometers of pipeline are installed for various applications around the
world. In Brazil, the greatest investments in the pipeline industry has been related to the distribution of natural gas. The
arc welding is the most used joining process in the construction of pipelines. There are various welding processes
available for the application, each of them, with specific characteristics. The moment of selection of the welding process
is of crucial importance for the development of the project. In order to facilitate the selection of the welding process to
be used, it is of major importance that the characteristics of each welding process as well as each pipeline
implementation project are well known. The aim of this paper is not only to evaluate and provide the detailed
information on the characteristics of the most used pipeline welding process but also to relate them to the characteristics
of the implementation project that have most significant influence on the welding process selection. In order to make it
possible comparative studies of the welding process were made; such studies included evaluation of costs, productivity,
deposition efficiency, duty cycle, operation, welder qualification, accuracy, mechanical properties. In addition, such
welding process characteristics were related to the peculiarities of each project of pipeline implementation (pipe
diameter, wall thickness, pipe grade, timetable, topography and labor cost) providing as final result a data base to
support a better selection of the pipeline welding process selection.
